About

After earning a degree in textiles and design, Courtney Barton honed her skills and appreciation for art working under designer Jill Stuart and couturier Ralph Rucci. In 2009 she moved to Southeast Asia and roamed the globe to scour souks, bazaars and markets, amassing a collection of sumptuous linens and unusual goods that she could not wait to bring back to the States. In Indian rural traditions, a mela or village fair led to export by communities wishing to bring a piece of their culture to new countries.

Having a respect for all things artisanal and a love for unbridled color,  Courtney founded Mela & Roam to tame her own wanderlust. Inspired by craft traditions from around the world, Courtney melds the magic of exotic Eastern wares with a high-end design sensibility. Daring to mix objects, origins and eras, she eagerly wants to share the discoveries found on roads less traveled; to transport others to far-flung places and to allow her unique and curious finds to continue living in a new way.

Our collection of lifestyle products celebrates rare artistry steeped in tradition. We offer antique and vintage furniture upholstered in rich textiles, one-off curios, art, and accessories all individually and ethically sourced from colorful destinations. Because of its authentic handcrafted nature, product bears the marks of its artist — creating natural subtleties and telling a global story that leaves no two pieces alike. We believe this adds to the unique charm and sensibility of each item, and certainly defies the generic mass-produced products consumed today. We're sure you'll agree.

Mela & Roam and its founder, Courtney Barton, have been featured in print and online publications such as Milieu, TradHome, Lonny, Vogue.com, Garden & Gun, One Kings Lane, various design blogs, and throughout the Coastal Living 2012 Ultimate Designer Beach House.
