About

mela  [mey-lah] – gathering or festival; a fair.
roam  ['rōm] – to range or wander over. Move about or travel, especially over a wide area.

After earning a degree in textiles and design, Courtney Barton honed her skills and appreciation for art working under designer Jill Stuart and couturier Ralph Rucci. In 2009 she moved to Southeast Asia and roamed the globe to scour souks, bazaars and markets, amassing a collection of sumptuous linens and unusual goods that she could not wait to bring back to the States.

Having a respect for all things artisanal and a love for unbridled color, Courtney founded Mela & Roam to tame her own wanderlust. Daring to mix objects, origins and eras, she eagerly wants to share the discoveries found on roads less traveled; to transport others to far-flung places and to allow her unique and curious finds to continue living in a new way.

Mela & Roam is inspired by craft traditions from around the world; melding the magic of exotic Eastern wares with a high-end design sensibility. In Indian rural traditions, a mela or village fair led to export by communities wishing to bring a piece of their culture to new countries.
